It is the established position of the, Utah Shooting Sports Council that the right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental individual right that is recognized by the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States and in Article 1, Section 6 of the Constitution of the, State of Utah. This right is held by 'the People", not only by those that are part of any organized or unorganized group under the term 'militia". Further, the United States Code recognizes all able-bodied males ages 17-45, along with some older males and some females as members of the unorganized militia, and similar provisions are provided in the Utah State Code.
The Utah Shooting Sports Council is a non-profit organization that is involved in mainstream political, educational, informational and communicative processes. USSC has not and will not be involved in the formation or organization of “citizen militias." USSC neither encourages nor discourages individuals from joining such organizations. USSC has not accepted any such organization as an affiliate member of USSC, nor does it intend to accept any such organization as an affiliate member in the future.
USSC has adopted as a core principle the following statement:
"USSC is committed to the principle of not supporting, and further specifically rejects the initiation of force or violence against persons, organizations or institutions to further our purpose and interests and achieve our goals. USSC strongly encourages every organization and individual involved in this issue to embrace this principle.”
USSC strongly encourages
every individual that chooses to become involved in any organization that
identifies itself as a 'citizens militia" to do so in full compliance with
federal, state and local laws.
